Matthew Kolodoski is a double board-certified attorney and partner in the Dallas office of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons, L.L.P. He has successfully represented clients through all phases of trial and appellate proceedings in state and federal courts throughout Texas. His practice focuses primarily on the representation of insurance carriers in all aspects of insurance coverage and extra-contractual litigation. Matthew’s diverse experience includes the representation of insurers in matters involving both commercial and personal lines policies, third-party disputes involving coverage, bad faith, and Stowers issues. He also has experience defending insurers in ERISA benefits matters, and he regularly advises employee welfare benefit plans and third-party administrators during the administrative review.
Matthew received his law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Irma C. Ramirez on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. Matthew is Board Certified in both Consumer and Commercial Law and Insurance Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Matthew is also active in the local and state-wide legal community. Among other positions, he currently serves as a Trustee of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, as a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Texas, as a member of the Council of the Consumer and Commercial Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Civil Liberties & Civil Rights Section of the State Bar of Texas. He is also a Founder and Secretary/Treasurer of the Dallas Insurance Law American Inn of Court, which is the first American Inn of Court in the Nation to focus on Insurance Law. Matthew previously served on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas (2018-2021), as an advisory member of the State Bar of Texas’s Pattern Jury Charge Oversight Committee (2018-2021), and as a member of the Professionalism Committee of the State Bar of Texas (2021-2023). He is also a past-Chair of the Civil Liberties & Civil Rights Section of the State Bar of Texas (2016-2017 & 2021-2022).
Matthew has been repeatedly recognized for his work in Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, Texas Super Lawyers: Rising Stars, and D Magazine: Best Lawyers Under 40. He has also been recognized with the Franklin Jones Best CLE Article Award by the Texas Bar College (2018), the Standing Ovation Award by TexasBarCLE (2022), the Serjeant of the Inn Award by the American Inns of Court (2024), and the Patrick Wiseman Award for Civil Rights by the Civil Liberties & Civil Rights Section of the State Bar of Texas (2024). He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Dallas Bar Foundation, and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation, as well as a Fellow of the Texas Bar College.
