Speaker Bio
William (“Bill”) is a trial attorney who has spent over two decades representing plaintiffs in first-party insurance litigation. At Green Klein Wood & Jones, Bill serves as an owner and Managing Partner of the firm and focuses exclusively on property & casualty related insured losses nationwide. Bill’s extensive experience with first party and bad faith insurance litigation makes him one of the leading first party insurance lawyers in Texas.
Bill’s substantial courtroom experience includes trying multiple cases as lead or co-counsel. Bill has litigated and settled over a thousand insurance claims and lawsuits for property owners whose claims were wrongfully handled by their insurance companies. Bill’s experience includes handling claims from Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Laura, Hurricane Ida and claims for hail, wind, fire, tornado, and freeze damage across the country.
As part of his work on the Hurricane Ike litigation, Bill participated in the negotiations on behalf of the plaintiffs in the drafting and presentation of the case management and discovery orders in the Hurricane Ike dockets pending in Harris, Galveston and Brazoria Counties. Bill was also involved in the $189 million settlement of the Hurricane Ike “Slab” claims against the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association which benefited policyholders whose homes were completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike.
In February 2020, Bill was one of the lead trial attorneys in a first party insurance claim that resulted in a 4-million-dollar judgment for a client that had been offered nothing to settle the case pre-trial or during trial. Particularly notable about this case was the jury found by clear and convincing evidence that the insurance company “intentionally” mishandled the claim and awarded $500,000 in damages to the insured as additional compensation for the intentional harm.
Bill also has wide-ranging knowledge in the areas of personal injury, medical and pharmaceutical products liability, business disputes, construction, agribusiness and environmental litigation. While a senior attorney at one of the nation’s most prominent pharmaceutical and medical device products liability firms, Bill managed the day-to-day litigation of the firm’s 300+ case strong Accutane® docket. Bill also prepared over 45 potential bellwether cases for trial in the In Re C.R. Bard, MDL No. 2187 litigation. Bill’s experience includes, taking hundreds of depositions of prescribing, implanting and treating physicians, deposing opposing expert witnesses, and handling pre-trial hearings and docket wide dispositive motions. Bill is particularly proud of an accolade he received from the Hon. Nelson Johnson in the In Re Accutane® litigation, who stated in a written opinion: “The court was impressed by the skill, artfulness, and zeal of Mr. Jones’ oral argument as to why Defendants’ Motion on the label should fail under the laws of the great state of Texas.”
